My Normal Brussels Sprouts
For my sister-in-law Dana - here's how I usually throw together brussels sprouts.
1 pound of Brussels sprouts
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
Clean off the outer leaves of each sprout. Cut off the end and then halve.
Place sprouts in a bowl and add an inch or two of water. Cover and microwave for 4-5 minutes, until parcooked. Drain (watch out for steam!).
Heat butter and oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. When foaming subsides, add the sprouts. If you want to be anal about it, add each sprout cut side down. They should sizzle. Sprinkle generous amounts of salt, pepper and garlic powder over the sprouts. Let cook, unmoved, for 2-3 minutes until the cut sides are nicely browned. Then mix them up to let other sides brown and cook for a few more minutes.
